Woodke, Maahs earn all state honors
Junior Taylor Woodke and senior Andy Maahs earned all state honors for their play in 2009. Both players also earned first team all league honors. Woodke was selected as a second team all state player at first base and Maahs earned honorable mention as an infielder.
Seniors Nick Jernberg and Kenny Gebhardt earned second team all league honors. We are fortunate to have Woodke returning. It will be tough to replace all stars Maahs, Jernberg and Gebhardt. These three seniors along with Kellen Moffat and Marcus Fike provided Willamette baseball fans with some great memories. All will be missed..
Looking ahead to spring of 2010, we are in good position to return to the state playoffs. Not only does all state player Taylor Woodke return, but thirteen other players return from our 2009 varsity roster. Many saw significant playing time in a league that featured the state champions Thurston Colts, and quarterfinalist North Eugene. Facing such stellar competition in 2009 will make our returning players all that much better next spring. |

Woodke and classmate David Busenbark were among the league leaders in RBI's. Juniors Logan Wright and Jordan Bowman were not far behind.
Our pitching staff should be much stronger next year. While we lose workhorse Andy Maahs to graduation, we return almost every other player who pitched this year.
Brandon Rocha got in considerable work on the mound this year. Jake Hughes, Woodke, Logan Wright, and Tony Svensson all worked at least a few innings in 2009. A team can never have too many pitchers.
We appreciate your support. We hope to see you again next year!
