Welcome to the 2009 edition of Springfield Miller baseball. The Millers are under the direction of new head coach Erik Lansdon. Assisting coach Lansdon is Jim Fryback, head coach of the 2000 state quarterfinal Miller squad, who has returned to help our Millers to return to state.
We completed our pre league schedule with a 6 win 4 loss record. Two of the losses were close games with 6A powerhouse North Medford and one of the local 6A teams, the South Eugene Axemen.
We feel our pre league schedule prepared us well for our incredibly tough league. In town rival Thurston is ranked number one in state and North Eugene has been ranked third. However, our pitching staff has shown the rest of the league that we can play with anyone. We started off league with what some would consider an upset - over Churchill. |

Our goal is to return to the state playoffs for the first time since 2000 when we went all the way to the state quarterfinals, only to lose to eventual state champions Lakeridge, 4-1. We have eight returning starters and a core of five solid seniors, led by Zady Navarro and Mike Travess. Junior Oliver Johnson returns after last years all league performance in the infield. And we we will be introducing sophomore Kameron Bates, who had a great pre league performance, to the league.
Please make your way to Hamlin Middle School, where we play our games. You'll see some great baseball, not just by our players, but by some of the best teams in state. You will want to be there for this very special year.
Good luck to all of our players, especially the seniors. We wish you the best this spring and in your many years after high school |
