Welcome to Springfield Miller Baseball

Erik Lansdon 2010 2nd Year

Millers Capture League Championship
and Advance to State Quarterfinals.

Junior Kameron Bates named MWL MVP

PRE - LEAGUE

The Millers only have seven games listed on their pre-league schedule so far. Notable match-ups are their opener against Pleasant Hill, a March 30 home game against powerful Marist and a Monday tune-up against 6A South Eugene before the Millers first league game against the Lancers.

South Albany notes:
Here's the batting order for Springfield for the South Albany Game. Interesting stats for the Millers for the game. Only one Miller struck out, and that was a well fought 10 pitch at bat. On the other hand, only five balls got out of the infield. The balls making the outfield were four fly outs and a double.

The Millers scored their only two runs in the fourth. The rally started when leadoff batter Ollie Johnson got hit by a pitch. The next three batters all hit ground balls that miraculously produced two runs.

That's all frosh pitcher Milak Evans needed to win the game. It was a great game to watch. Outstanding pitching by both pitchers, who both completed the game. Fantastic defense by both infields, and some great diving catches by both centerfielders.

LEAGUE

The Millers finished 8-7 last year, one game out of a tie with Churchill and North Eugene, who both finished 9-6. North Eugene and Churchill went to state.

Springfield has home field advantage over Churchill and North Eugene this year. Depending how the pitching match-ups go, spectators could see some of the best pitching in the area by visiting Hamlin fields. The Millers have junior lefty Kameron Bates. The Lancers have Spencer Jorgensen and North can toss soph Andrew Moore. Let's hope we see a couple of these match-ups this year.

PLAYERS (from Feb 15 Way Too Early Prediction)

The Millers were exciting to watch last year. They were in the hunt for a playoff spot after the first two rounds, but missed a three way tie for second by one game. Several key players return from that team and they won't want to miss the playoffs this year. If they make the playoffs, it will be the first time in ten years for Springfield.

Two big factors that favor a playoff scenario for the Millers: First, a senior laden team. Second, a very good pitching staff. Don't be surprised if I move the Millers into a playoff spot in my final pre-league prediction.
