2006-7 School Year saw a change from 4 OSAA classifications to 6.
The MWL moved from the top Division(4A) to the second largest, now called
5A. There were about 80 teams in the old 4A classification. Now there are about 40 in 5A and 40 in 6A. 6A is comprised of schools with student populations of at least 1520 students. However, about 15 teams play up above the 5A level, the smallest 6A public school being Lakeridge with 1060 students in 2007. 5A is for schools from 850 to 1520 students. Three Portland area school played up to join their old PIL friends at 5A. Jefferson is the smallest at 536. 4A Cottage Grove is above the 4A cutoff of 850. If they maintain their numbers, they may rejoin the MWL in the future. The Lions have not been in the MWL since last century. |
